Happy Thursday, Families!

It has been another busy week in 2nd grade! Thank you to everyone who wished me happy birthday. I really appreciate it. I had a lot of homemade cards from your students, which is always the BEST!!  The students got to watch me in a crown and sash all day yesterday as another teacher said that we all deserve to be a queen on your birthday!

*Every Friday, we will be sending home a green folder with your student. This has work that they can keep and some work that they may need to finish. This week may be a little light as we are working on ensuring we write our name on the top of the page.

Class Schedule:

  • 8:00am – 8:30am – soft start
  • 8:30am – 9:00am – morning work/announcements/calendar time
  • 9:00am – 9:15am – recess
  • 9:15am – 10:45am – ELA
  • 10:45am – 11:00am – recess
  • 11:00am – 11:30am – lunch
  • 11:30am – 2:00pm – ELA continued, math, science/social studies
  • 2:05pm – 2:30pm – PE
  • 2:30pm – 3:00pm – pick up
  • 3:00pm – 3:30pm – class dismissal

*We have music on Mondays & Thursdays from 1:30pm – 2:00pm

Some of the highlights were:

  • Starting our curriculum in both English & Math.
    • In English, we are talking a lot about culture in line with the stories we are reading. I have empowered my students to ask you where your family is from originally so that we can hear more about different cultures, food, celebrations… One of our students is from Venezuela and it has been so interesting to hear about some of the differences in her culture.
    • In Math, we are slowly diving in with a review of some of the things that they learned last year in terms of addition & subtraction with numbers under 10.
    • We are still reading some awesome books: Have You Filled a Bucket Today, What Were You Thinking, Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun… If you haven’t read Have You Filled a Bucket Today you can find it on YouTube. I try to ask my students every day if they filled someone’s bucket. 🙂

Next week:

  • We will have our MAP testing on Wednesday & Thursday afternoon.

Some reminders:

  • Please ensure that they are wearing tennis shoes as they will have PE every day.
  • Please remember our nut-free policy for lunches. Also, there are no microwaves available for student use. Lastly, students must bring any utensils they may need.
  • Please pack a healthy, quick, non-messy afternoon snack each day.
  • Please don’t forget water bottles.

Please have a wonderful weekend! Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions that you may have!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sibley
