Happy Thursday, Families!

It was a busy week in 2nd grade! We had Art Masterpiece today, where they explored the work of Paul Klee and created their own watercolor painting based on Mr. Klee’s famous Cat art piece. We also read a Fable (in line with our curriculum this week) about his work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZoWLtsS-3s

Next Week’s Curriculum:

We are beginning our lesson into Poetry. Our essential questions is: what do we love about animals? We will also be learning about compound words and possessive nouns.

Spelling words: scratch, scrape, spring, throne, stripe, strange, shred, shrub, splash, split, catch, sting, far, flower, until – they will be practicing these words with me at teacher’s table and will be seeing these words on the worksheets as well.

We are continuing our learning on addition with two digits up to 100 and working on our fluency. We have a bunch of strategies that we learned, but now they are working on what is comfortable to them. We will also be diving into more word problems next week.

On Friday, 2nd grade will be doing “surgery – contraction surgery.” If you could please provide disposable gloves, disposable masks, and Band-Aids to make it even more fun!!

Yellow Notebooks (Agendas):

Ask your student about their yellow notebooks at night! They are writing 2 things in there that they have learned throughout the day, grammar sentences in the morning, and writing prompts. Feel free to add any notes to support your student as well! This is just a great way for you to connect with what your student is learning!

Green Folders:

These will begin going home every day as it will have their homework for the night. They will be expected to bring their folder every morning and turn in their homework daily. Homework levels were determined at conferences.

Scholastic LiteracyPro:

I am so excited to share that your students now have access to Scholastic Literacy Pro. Here they will be able to receive personalized book recommendations based on their interest and reading level. We will talk about the homework levels at the upcoming conference, but part of every homework level is reading for 30 minutes a night. On this site, it will track: what they are reading, how long they are reading, provide reading comprehension questions, and track their reading level progress. It can be so beneficial to a parent, as well as the teacher. 😊
