Happy Wednesday!!

I was overjoyed and ecstatic to have your students in class this week and back from break! We have been busy!

New Information:

  • FIELD TRIP: Tomorrow, October 12, we will be going to Schnepf Farms for our first field trip of this year! Please send your students with a disposable lunch and water bottle so that we are able to throw it away there. Your student is required to take the bus so arrival and dismissal to the school will be the same. Only the students, teachers, and approved chaperones can attend. Due to Schnepf Farms policy, no family members are able to join the field trip. It does not open to the public until 12pm.
  • HALLOWEEN: Halloween is coming on Tuesday, October 31st. This will be a 1/2 day with dismissal at 11:00am. Per San Tan Charter School policy, NO costumes, sweets, or candy are allowed.
  • CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS: Do you want to volunteer in the classroom or hang out with your student at lunch? I’d love to have you! Let me know! You must have your Fingerprint Clearance Card.

This Week:

  • We:
    • began learning about fables and how animals in stories can teach us lesson. We read The Boy Who Cried Wolf & Wolf! Wolf! These are different versions of the same story and we talked about how stories from different perspectives change the meaning of the story.
    • began learning about double digit subtraction.
    • learned about rivers and how the main rivers in the US connect to the ocean. We did an experiment with spraying water on paper and watching how the ink drained down.

Next Week:

  • Our spelling words:
    • chop, catch, shape, trash, phone, that, sting, thin, bring, while, place, badge, seven, isn’t, early

    • Penny Wars
      • We have two tables setup in front of the library windows with penny jars representing each teacher’s classroom.
      • The goal is to collect the most pennies in your classroom jar. If students put other monies in other teacher’s jars it will make them go negative in the count.
      • Power National Honor Society students will arrive at Recker daily to count the money in the jars and announce updates at 2:40pm each day over the paging system.
      • This is a competition between Recker classrooms. The winning classroom by the end of the day on Friday will earn themselves a Pizza Party.
  • Annual Fall Pumpkin Contest
    • Our Annual Fall Pumpkin Contest is scheduled for October 16th-20th this year.
      • Guidelines Include:
        • Pumpkin Size: 2 lbs or less
