Sibley’s Super Stars – Weekly Newsletter 11/16/2023
Happy Thursday!
I was overjoyed and ecstatic to have your students in class this week! We have been busy!
New Information:
- DISGUISE A TURKEY PROJECT: Your student will be bringing home a project due tomorrow, Thursday, November 16th. They will be “disguising a turkey” and writing how they disguised it. I can’t wait to see it! It is always one of my favorite projects!
- DECEMBER CONFERENCES: Sign up here for Q2 Parent Teacher Conferences. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4FA8AE22A5FBC07-2ndquarter#/
- MAP TESTING SCHEDULE:
- Reading: Thursday, 11/30 and Friday, 12/1 at 8:35am
- Math: Wednesday, 12/6 and Thursday, 12/7 at 8:35am
- This test is used to collect data on the students so that we can differentiate instruction. These scores grow with them at STCS and can help us see the growth that the student is making.
- In 2nd grade, the test NO longer reads to them. This is a big change from kindergarten and first grade so please remind your student.
- Please have them get a good night’s rest & eat a healthy breakfast as they will be starting with the test in the morning.
- I will be reminding my students as well, but please remind them to TRY THEIR BEST! 😊
This Week:
- We:
- continued discussing how we can help our community and read some interesting non-fiction stories about incredible people (including: fire fighters).
- continued learning about verbs in terms of past, present, and future tense
- began our new math unit about word problems. We will try to figure out what the questions are asking in terms of addition or subtraction.
- read Turkey Trouble and talked about how our turkey’s disguise would work.
Next Week:
- Spelling Words: told, most, float, coat, toast, grow, mow, show, Joe, toe, light, mind, only, our, who
School Information:
- CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING: Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is on Wednesday, November 22nd from 11:00am-12:30pm. Occurring the day before Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is a tradition at San Tan Charter! Dr. and Mrs. Sippel began this tradition in the first Montessori Preschool class with bean soup. The tradition continues for families by bringing their own lunch and eating it picnic style outside as a community and bringing desserts to share. We will open the front doors starting at 11:00am. There is NO drive lane this day and parents will pick up their student from the class.
- WINTER MUSIC CONCERT: The Winter Music Concert is on December 5th at the Recker Campus Gym. Students will need to be dropped off at 4:30pm and the concert will start at 5pm. There is no teacher before 4:30pm to drop off the student. More information on songs and what the student will be asked to wear soon!
- SPELLING BEE: Recker will be hosting it’s annual Spelling Bee on Friday, January 5th. Mrs. Sibley’s class will be hosting our own Spelling Bee on Tuesday, November 28th. The winner will be participating in the Recker Spelling Bee against the other classes. Participation is not mandatory, but I will provide spelling lists so that they can practice at home.
I am very much looking forward to another wonderful week! Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions that you may have!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sibley
